Security in Sears Jobs

It seems that the only things in this economy that do not fail are those that are too big to fail or too stupid. I have noticed a resurgence of the mindless reality television, and sweet Lord in aisle three, is it stupid! And yet, we return week after week, season after season to watch it. Why? These shows speak to us on some level. They say, “In these hard time you don’t need the complicated plots and subtle witty word play that runs on that elitist BBC America, no sir. You need outrageous and wild to compete in that arena.”

Like wise people with jobs working with these shows are safe from being completely edged out. We need these people with reality TV jobs to give us what we need in the same way that we need people who have large department store jobs, like Sears jobs to bring us what we need.

Which brings me to why I think businesses that are “too large to fail” will, indeed, survive. Stores like Sears are too large to fail; they offer a huge variety of goods, a capitalist cornucopia, which we cannot refuse. Now does Sears offer us the hand-crafted quality that smaller stores would offer? Do they offer us the opportunity to support our local economy and create a self-contained community? Well… no. But they do offer seventeen kinds of lawnmower blades. And jobs. Lots of jobs.

Sears offers jobs in nearly every field, electronics, automobiles, fashion, accounting, you name it, there is probably someone with a job in it with Sears printed on their paycheck.

Most of these are quick to toss in the fact that they also get a commission on their sales so conceivably there is no real cap to what one could earn but at the same time, I am a realist. I have worked retail. There is indeed a limited amount to what you can make.

These Sears jobs are not your ticket to the big time, but for someone just laid off from a high power sales team, it could be a good hold you over until the economy gets back on its feet. Basically, it’s solid income in shaky times. It’s a great dream to chase and a Sears job is going to be a great start. In my, oh so humble, opinion, if that is your dream, hitch your wagon to that star and let ‘er ride.
